Obituary for Janet J. Sowmick
Janet Marie (Jackson) Sowmick, 79, of West Branch passed away peacefully at her home on June 12, 2018.
Janet was born on January 22, 1939 in West Branch to Clare & Marjorie (Bedtelyon) Jackson. She lived there most of her life except for the years she lived in Pinconning with her husband, Lawrence (Chief) Sowmick and family.
Janet was very active with the Girl Scouts when she lived in Pinconning. She graduated from SVSU in 1989 with her teaching degree and retired from the Gerrish-Higgins school district in 2002. She was very active at the senior center and the Red Hat Society after moving back to West Branch. She also especially enjoyed baking for the Ogemaw County Fair and earned many Best of Show ribbons.
Janet is survived by her children, Kittie Lou (Ray) Thibault of Alger, Claire (Mike) Dunnigan of Plymouth, sisters Clara (John) Pasko of Bay City, Doris Perkins of West Branch and Millie Jackson of Alabama. She is also survived by her 7 beloved grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, her sister Barbara Beckwith and her son David.
Visitation will be at the Edwards Community Church on Greenwood Road on Saturday, June 16, 2018 from 10am to 12pm with a celebration of life immediately following. Pastor Jon Scott will officiate.
Per Janet’s wishes memorial contributions may be made to Edwards Community Church, the Fraser/Pinconning Fire Department or Camp Fish Tales in Pinconning.
