Gladwin, Michigan

Bernice S. Sloan, age 84, of Gladwin, MI, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Mid Michigan Gladwin Pines. She was born August 9, 1928 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Charlotte (Sawicki) Mijewski.
Bernice married Thomas F. Sloan Jr. on August 27, 1949 and they moved to Gladwin in December of 1957. He preceded her in death on October 2, 2010. She retired from the District Court in 1988. Bernice was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church and a member of the Women’s Society.
Bernie was a dedicated and faithful wife and a devoted and loving mother to her 8 children. Her kind, quiet and humble spirit made her easy to love and she was loved by so many. Her deep faith sustained her through life's most difficult challenges and her strength and resilience will be remembered forever by her children. Her grandchildren brought her great joy and countless memorable moments. She was a lovely, loving woman.
She is survived by her children; Thomas Sloan of Tucson, AZ; Theresa (Richard) Garber of Venice, Fl; John (Karen) Sloan of Venice, Fl; Patrick (Debbie) Sloan of Middlebury, IN; Joseph Sloan of Gladwin, MI; Christine (Patrick) Schlicksup of Hebron, KY; Mary Sue (Steve) Hill of Gladwin, MI and Kate (Marty) Zelt of Gladwin, MI. 24 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday January 16 at 11 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gladwin. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 15 from 4-8 P.M. with a Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. at the Sisson Funeral Home, Gladwin, MI.  On Wednesday Mrs. Sloan will lie in state at church from 10 am until time of Mass. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Gladwin Pines Nursing Home for their loving and compassionate care these past 5 months.
Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Bernice to MidMichigan Hospice.

Tuesday 4 to 8 pm
Wednesday Mass at Sacred Heart Church at 11 am
