Mr. Smith 79 passed away at his home on Wednesday April 26, 2012 with his loving family at his side following a lingering illness. He was born in Ft. Blackmore, Virginia to the late Odie & Luna (Baldwin) Smith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Korean War serving on the USS Vesuvius. Billy married the former Darlyne Gable on August 12, 1956 in Seattle, Washington. He was retired from Detroit Edison in 1993 and moved to Harrison were he enjoyed the out of doors with his family.
Surviving beside his wife of 55 years, are their children Stephen & Brenda Gable, Starretta Humphrey, Victoria & Tony Shaouni, Billy & Katrina Smith and Jeffery & Lynn Smith; 8 grandchildren and 6 Great grandchildren and 2 brothers Ted & Odie Jr. Smith and a sister Faye. He was predeceased by his 2Â brothers and a sister.
Funeral & Committal service will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan on Monday May 7, 2012 at 2:30 pm with Naval Military Honors. Arrangements entrusted to Sisson Funeral Home a Veteran’s Funeral Care Provider.
