Donald Joseph Lyons, 87 of Gladwin died peacefully October 27, 2012 at Mid Michigan Medical Center, Midland following a lingering illness. He was born November 25, 1924 in Detroit to the late Joseph & Agnes (Murphy) Lyons. He graduated from Gladwin High School in 1943 and served his country during WW II in the United States Navy. He returned to Gladwin and married the former Grace (Irene) Weaver on October 22, 1947; she preceded him in death 2009. Mr. Lyons was employed by th Gladwin A & P and later the United States Postal Service from which he retired in 1985.
He is survived by his sister Betty (Loren) Major of Surprise, Arizona, sister in law Irma Weaver of Gladwin, several nieces & nephews and many cherished friends. He was predeceased by his wife Irene, his parents, and brothers Jack and Bill Lyons.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday October 29, 2012 at 11 am from Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. John Cotter presiding with internment to follow in Grout Twp. Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, those considering an expression of sympathy are asked to consider donations to the Gladwin Goodfellows Christmas Baskets or the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements are entrusted to Sisson Funeral Home.
