Mr. Sherman 78 passed away Monday September 15, 2014 at his home with his family at his side following a brief illness. He was born in Sherman Township on July 9, 1936 to the late Otto & Iva June (Cuddie) Sherman. He married the former Barbara K. Erskine on December 10, 1955 at the Oberlin Lutheran Church, she survives him. They lived and raised their family on the farm on Shearer Rd. where he farmed and raised cattle. Don's childhood dream was to fly and he realized that dream. He was able to buy his own Taylorcraft single engine airplane, which he flew over the Gladwin area landing in the hayfield at his farm for several years. He was a member of the Our Savior Lutheran Church and was retired from the Gladwin School District after 28 years as a mechanic and bus driver and at Greer Brother Implement as a tractor mechanic until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife Barbara of 58 years and their daughters Debra & Ronald Tripp of Chevy Chase, MD and Sandra & Jack Wark of Beaverton; grand-children Rachel Tripp, Katherine Tripp, Carrie (Adam) Breault and Justin Wark; 2 great grand-children Amber & Ethan Breault; a sister Augusta & Edward Etelamaki; 2 brothers Martin Sherman and Alt & Robyn Sherman and a godson Eddie Etelamaki, also brother in laws, sister in laws, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services were  held Thursday September 18, 2014 at 1:30 pm from Our Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor James Krach presiding with burial in Highland Cemetery. Family will greet friends at the Sisson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3 to 8 pm. On Thursday Mr. Sherman will lie in state at the church from 12:30 pm until time of services.

Thursday 12:30 to 1:30 pm at Our Savior Lutheran Church
