Mrs. Kern, 89, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at her home with her loving family at her side following a lingering illness. She was born in Flint on September 9, 1929 to the late Fred & Gladys (Durham) Cole. She was raised in Mt. Morris from the age of five until she married the love of her life Eugean (Gean) Kern on November 21, 1944 in Flint . They lived the most of their married life in Clio, Michigan until1976 when they moved to Gladwin. He preceded her in death in 2009.
Dorathea enjoyed making her plastic canvas items, knitting, crocheting, working crossword puzzles and especially being with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her children Donald & Marty Kern and Janice & Bill Moore; 26 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 18 great great grandchildren; a brother Arthur Cole and 32 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death her husband of 71 years, a son Bruce Kern in 2006, a daughter Gloria Mercier in 2014, grandson Danny in 1973, 4 sisters Doris, Ester, Helen and Joyce; 2 brothers Arlan and Ralph.
Funeral Service will be held Friday September 2, 2016 at 11 am from the Sisson Funeral Home with Elder Tom Ernst presiding with burial Edwards Cemetery, West Branch. Family will greet family and friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1 to 8 pm and Friday 10 am until time of services. Those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the family’s wishes to be decided.
