Mr. Bauer 69 beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother died suddenly Thursday September 6, 2012 at his home in Beaverton. He was born in Saginaw on January 6, 1943. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Phyllis Joyce Bauer. He also leaves a daughter Cathy & Glen Schmidt of Freeland, his son Gene Carl & Veronica Bauer Jr. of Thomas Township. Four dearly loved grandchildren Steven and Luke Schmidt, Gretchen and Kirsten Bauer and three sisters Alice Pickelman, Barbara & Glenn Ruhlig and Nita & Bud Armentrout.
Gene was the Kochville Township Fire Department Chief from August 1992 through June 1997. He also, held positions as Assistant Chief, Lieutenant, Training Officer and was a charter member as well. He served on the following associations Michigan State Fireman’s Association, Michigan Fire Service Instructors Association, The International Society of Fire Service Instructors and was an instructor in the Fire Science Program at Delta College, where he earned his degree in Fire Science. He was nominated Firefighter of the Year in 1992, by the Exchange Club of Saginaw Valley and retired in 1990 from GM Saginaw Grey Iron after 27 years of service. Gene was predeceased by his mother, father, two sisters and two brothers.
Per Gene’s wishes cremation will take place and there will be no services. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Billings Bible Church, 4111 Wieman Rd., Beaverton, MI 48642. Arrangements are entrusted to Sisson Funeral Home.
