Mr. Searfoss 96 passed away Saturday August 10, 2013 at Mid-Michigan – Gladwin Pines following a lingering illness. He was born in Gladwin on October 27, 1916 to the late George W. & Blanche (Nettleton) Searfoss. He married the former Cassie Lennon on September 23, 1943 at the Wagarville United Methodist Parsonage; she preceded him in death on November 5, 1969. George served his country during WW II in the U. S. Army in the New Guinea and Southern Philippines Campaigns. He was retired from the Continental Can Co. & farming. He was a lifetime member of the Farm Bureau. He will be remembered for his love of farming, horses and especially his ability of dowsing & drilling wells. He enjoyed hunting and getting a buck at the age of 94, also trapping and fishing.
He is survived by his children George T. Searfoss, Sheryll Smith, Jerald & Sara Searfoss, Kenneth & Gloria Searfoss and Jill Howell; 21 grand children, 31 great grand children. He was preceded in death by a son in law Terry Howell; a brother Floyd (Pete) Searfoss; 5 sisters Elsie Nash, Eva Matthews, Hazel Searfoss, Grace Shaver and Mary Byrnes.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday August 17, 2013 at 11 am from the Sisson Funeral Home with Pastor Paul J. Klassen presiding with burial in McClure Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 3 to 7 pm and Saturday 10 am until time of services. Those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Humane Society of West Branch.
