George L. Cornell 70 passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015 at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland after being found unresponsive in the ClareCastle Senior Apartments which became his home in the past year. George was born in Beaverton, MI on February 21, 1945 to the late James and Velva (Blades) Cornell and grew up as a farmer. He was a foreman at Wolverine Campers. and during his career worked in manufacturing at various companies in the area. He enjoyed wood working and owned his own wood drying kiln for several years in his retirement. He loved spending time with his family and adored his grandchildren whom he was very proud of and spoke about often. He is survived by one son; James and Della (Becker) Cornell of Grand Blanc, his daughter; Deborah and Eric Seymour of Clare, 5 grandchildren; Kristy and Kayla Cornell and Derek, Chelcie, and Brooklyn Seymour, three sisters Lois VandeVrede, Melodie Reid, and Nancy Klassen. He was predeceased by his wife Joyce (Carol), two sisters and two brothers; Joyce Geasler, Ann Muma, Frank Cornell and the late Bobby Cornell.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 11 am at Beaverton Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Martin Hodge officiating with burial in Dale Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday March 15, 2015 from 2-8 pm at Sisson Funeral Home. On Monday Mr. Cornell will lie in state at the church from 10 am until time of services. A luncheon will follow at the church.
