Harold R. Foerster, 87, passed away Friday, February 12, 2016, at the Gladwin Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. He was born in Detroit on April 23, 1928 to
Reinhold & Natalie (Kuhn) Foerster.
Harold was a mechanic in the United States Air Force and served in the South Pacific Islands during World War II. He married Jean Jones on May 20, 1950 in Roseville. He worked at Jones & Laughlin Steel Mill for over 30 years before retiring to the Gladwin area. Harold was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and served as a Deacon and Trustee. He used his carpentry skills in helping to plan and build several churches. He also served as a Sherman Township Trustee. He enjoyed race car driving, woodworking, being in the woods and on the water.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jean, sister-in-law Patsy McMurtry, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Harold is preceded in death by his daughter Karen, sister Dorothy and brothers Marvin and Herbert.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, February 17, 2016, 11 am, at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Joe Dorias presiding with burial in the Sherman Township Cemetery. The Family will receive friends at Emmanuel from 9 am to the time of service. Memorials may be made to The New Dawn Shelter, 137 Commerce Ct., Gladwin, MI. Arrangements are entrusted to Sisson Funeral Home.
