Mr. Lyons 95 went to be with his Lord on Sunday April 15, 2012 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born in Clare County on October 3, 1916 to the late Elmer & Alice (McClain) Lyons. He married the former Vivien A. Sharp on August 31, 1936 in Gladwin. She survives him. John spent most of his childhood in Clare County and then moving to the Gladwin Area. He retired from Dow Corning of Midland in 1979. He was a member of the Gladwin Cornerstone Baptist Church and enjoyed being with his family.
Surviving besides his wife of 75 years are their children Gilbert & Lucille Lyons, Norma & Ward Schanhals, Nancy Lyons, Sandra Lyons-Bluestone and Bradley & Barbara Lyons; 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters Cozy Bailey and Leona Harrold and a brother Albert “Pat” Lyons.
A Celebration Service will be held Wednesday at 10 am from the Gladwin Cornerstone Baptist Church with Pastors Carl Briggs and Scott Bradstreet presiding with burial in Sherman Township (Skeels) Cemetery. Friends may call at the Sisson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm. Wednesday Mr. Lyons will lie in state at the church from 9 am until time of service. Those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Gladwin Cornerstone Baptist Church or the Alzheimer Association.
