Obituary for Lawrence "Buck" Alward
Lawrence “Buck” E. Alward, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, age 88, of Gladwin, MI, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2011 at the Gladwin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Gladwin, MI. He was born May 2, 1922 in Gladwin the son of the late George and Hazel (McGuire) Alward.
Buck married Henrietta (Rickman) Alward on July 3, 1946 in Pigeon, MI. He loved hunting, fishing, farming and sports of all kinds and standing on the sidelines watching his grandchildren play sports. He was inducted into the Gladwin Schools Athletic Hall of Fame. In his Senior year he lettered in five sports. He also was a sparing partner for Joe Louis. He also loved farming and watching things grow and raising Limousine Calf’s for local 4-H kids.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Milton G. and Dennis W. Alward.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Henrietta Alward of Gladwin, MI; children, Tom (Pam) Alward of Gladwin, MI; Lois Parsell of Hemlock, MI and Dianne Biery of Marquette, MI. Grandchildren, Charity (Brent) Weston of Gladwin, MI; Matthew (Libby) Alward of Dowagiac, MI; Thomas Ward of Hemlock, MI; Richard (Rene) Ward of Evart, MI; Jamie (Aaron) Gorang of Marion, MI; Brian (Kristin) Parsell of Auburn, MI; Michael (Lindsay) Biery of Marquette, MI and Brooke Biery of Marquette, MI and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Matthew Schultz officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 13, 2011 from 2-8 PM at the Sisson Funeral Home. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Buck to the Our Savior Lutheran Church.
