Obituary for Leonard Joseph Stephens
Leonard (Boots) Stephens

West Branch, MI

Born in West Branch on August 15, 1948 to Joe and Joan Stephens, Leonard had the privilege of being named after both his late maternal grandfather and his father Joseph. His mother Joan Stephens, preceded him in death - also at a relatively early age.

Leonard served his country in the Army, being stationed in Germany during the Vietnam era. Thereafter, he received his business administration degree from Ferris State. His successful career as a real estate agent began and ended with great friends: Dale Sheltrown at Century 21, and Patty Dack at C. A. Hanes Realty.

Leonard was president of the Ten Lakes Sportsman's Club, an avid fundraiser for the Ogemaw Nature Park, and served on the Parks and Recreation Committee for Ogemaw County. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the American Legion, and Knights of Columbus.

Besides loving his clients and work, Leonard thoroughly enjoyed his lifelong passion for hunting and fishing, and the annual trips to do so with his buddies, Wednesdays at Hanks, and pulling pranks on anyone he could.

Among those so saddened by his death on December 5, 2015 are his father Joe (Cindy) Stephens, sister Donna Stephens Morris, and nephew Michael Morris all of West Branch; niece Micayla Jo Ann Morris of Saratoga Springs, NY., his devoted friend Stan Doane, and partner Linda Doba.

Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at 12 Noon from the St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. T. Patrick Maher presiding with inurnment in St. Joseph Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home on Tuesday from 1 to 8 pm. A Rosary Service and Military Honors will be held at 7 pm Tuesday evening.
