Obituary for Lois A. Lenarsic
Lois A. Lenarsic
Gladwin, Michigan
With her loving family at her side, Lois Ann Lenarsic, age 76, of Gladwin, passed away peacefully at Midland Hospital Friday, August 23, 2013. She was born March 18, 1937 to Floyd and Lela Nearing of Gladwin. Upon graduation from Gladwin High School in 1955, Lois attended Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. With a strong passion in reading and science, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree after which she began her career in teaching. The majority of this career was spent at Beaverton Elementary School where she taught second grade. Following in the footsteps of her mother, there was the genuine desire and commitment to her students and Lois continued to play a vital role in the development of young minds until her retirement in 1997.
Lois married James Gerow December 29, 1962 and they raised two children together; Michelle Gerow-Ellis (Jeff) of Duluth, Minnesota, and Michael Gerow (Kellie) of Gladwin, Michigan.
A devoted Christian, Lois had an unwavering faith in God and ended each day reading her Bible. Over the years she was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and most recently, Christ the King Lutheran Church in Gladwin where she played the organ and sang in the church choir. Lois also played the bells and helped with the Church's Kid's Club. When able, Lois was also very involved in the planning of her high school reunions and attending the teacher (alumni) retirement luncheons.
Her devoted and often humorous interaction with family and friends was a constant force in her everyday life; a huge part of who she was. There was the annual phone call one would experience complete with a special solo rendition of the "Happy Birthday" song. There were not many mornings she missed her morning coffee club or the walks with her brother, Wayne and sister-in-law, Luella which would also include the latest thought and/or joke of the day via Jeff Foxworthy. Lois loved sports and watching the games, especially college basketball and football, on TV and if possible live at the stadium. Music was another passion of hers and she played accordion and piano.
Lois married Gene Lenarsic of Gladwin on April 10, 1987. Together they loved to take leisurely rides in the car or on Gene's Harley Davidson. Often these trips took them to the cabin in the woods in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
One would often hear Lois speak of her "extended family" which included her beloved Black Lab, J.T. Before his untimely demise, you could often times find them playing together in the front yard. Bird watching with her other four-legged feline friend, Zena, who would be curled up in her lap in front of their large picture window was another favorite past time. The newest member of the furry family is E.J.
Lois had an unending love of life and adventurous spirit. Whether it was a hot air balloon ride above the Arizona desert, snorkeling in the Caribbean or whale watching in Alaska, she lived life to its fullest, never taking one moment for granted.
Lois is survived by her husband, Gene Lenarsic, children, Michelle Gerow-Ellis (Jeff) and Michael Gerow (Kellie), brother, Wayne Nearing (Luella), six grandchildren, one great-grand daughter, 3 nieces, 1nephew, 4 great nephews, 4 great nieces and 1 great-great niece.
Lois Lenarsic touched the lives of everyone that was fortunate enough to be a part of her life and memories will be cherished forever by her family and friends. There will now be an irreplaceable void in our lives but we find peace in knowing she is at Heaven's gate, smiling down upon us all. Her never ending optimism and outlook is an inspiration to us all.
A Service to celebrate Lois's life will be held at Christ The King Lutheran Church at 600 S. M-18 Gladwin at 7:00 pm Wednesday August 28, 2013. Visitation will be the same evening at 6:00 pm at the church and an ice cream social to follow the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Christ The King Lutheran Church, The American Cancer Society, or the Beaverton Elementary School music and or reading fund.Â
