Mrs. Coats 99 passed away peacefully Thursday September 4, 2014 at The Brook Retirement Community in Gladwin. She was born in Gladwin on April 25, 1915 to the late James & Lucinda (Gray) Hetherington. She attended the Gladwin Area School and moved to Midland where she married Alvin Shannon on August 16, 1935 in Saginaw. He preceded her in death in 1963. She was retired from Dow Corning in 1966. Mable married Harley Coats in Midland in 1966 and returned to the Gladwin area. He preceded her in death in 1985. She attended the Gladwin First United Methodist and was a past member of the Rebecca’s.
She is survived by her children Edna (Raymond) Shocknesse, Faye (Vern) Estes, Carol (John) Shocknesse, Edward Shannon and Harold Shannon; step-children Wilma (Don)Â Sarver, Carolyn (Larry) Newman, Eldon (Dorothy) Coats, Joe (Betty) Coats; 37 grandchildren, many great and great-great grandchildren. Mable is predeceased by her Daughter, Mary Ropp, sons Robert and Alfred Shannon and Ralph Coats as well as brothers Clarence Hetherington, Roy Hetherington, Leo Hetherington, Albert Hetherington, sisters Eulaylah Ridley, Veva Shaw, Nellie Simpson, Mary Barker and Anne Arbuckle.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 8, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Sisson Funeral Home with Pastor David Amstutz officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1-8 and Monday from 12:00 PM until the funeral. Burial will take place at McClure Cemetery.
