Marian M. Ortenburg 95, passed away on November 10, 2014 at the Gladwin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on January 3, 1919 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada to the late William and Martha (Yerke) Suter. She grew up in Chaplin, Saskatchewan, Canada then moved with her family to Gladwin in 1928 where she finished the 8th grade at a school in Grout Township. She then moved to Detroit and while working at Cunningham’s Drug Store she met Albert Ortenburg. They were married in 1937 and after living in Detroit for a few years in 1944 they moved to a farm in Butman Township where they raised five children.
Marian enjoyed sewing, reading, playing cards, gardening, cooking and baking. She was very hospitable and knew how to cook for a few or a whole group of thrashers. She was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for over 56 years and was active in proclaiming God’s Kingdom and its blessings for the earth.
She is survived by five children Ernest (Colleen) Ortenburg, Dennis (Martha) Ortenburg, Dianne (Edward) Strasburg, Sheryl (Jack) Doty Jr., David (Kimberly) Ortenburg, 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, one sister Pearl Devenney and one brother Chet Suter. Besides her husband Albert and her parents Marian is preceded in death by 7 sisters.
Services for Marian will be held at 11:00 am on November 22, 2014 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with Jason Evensen officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am until the time of service.
Inurnment will take place in Highland Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Sisson Funeral Home.
