Obituary for Marion Carbeno
Marion (Gooden) Carbeno, age 98, a long time resident of Gladwin passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at The Brook after a short illness. Marion was born on October 7, 1920, the youngest of 6 children to Uriah and Bertha Gooden. On September 25, 1940 she was united in Marriage to Wayne D. Carbeno also of Gladwin at the United Methodist Church of Wagerville. Eventually the family grew to include 6 children. In the early years Marion remained at home, spending much of her time growing a large garden and then canning that produce, or at the sewing machine making a lot of their needs and also teaching the three girls how to do the same. Later, when the kids were older she found time to have a part time job in the Gladwin Bank. After a few years she moved on to work at the Gladwin Hospital. Many Gladwin resident will remember seeing her at the Hospital Gift Shop where she worked as a volunteer into her nineties. Marion enjoyed travel and loved to join her daughters and friends on bus trips around Michigan. She also enjoyed knitting. Marion is survived by her daughters Mary Lou Muma, Carol (Charles) Waldron and her sons Charles (Maxine), Dennis (Deborah) and David Carbeno. The family has grown to include 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 16 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, their daughter Patricia Holm, three grandchildren Jeff, Kim and Joey and three sisters Ella Kareus, Grace Searfoss and Ida Foor. Visitation will take place on Monday, November 12 from 2pm until 7pm at Sisson Funeral Home, 135 North Silverleaf, Gladwin. Additional visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 13 from 10am until 11am, the time of the service at the Gladwin Free Methodist Church, 1312 North State Street, Gladwin with Rev. Phil Hortop officiating. Private interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Gladwin. Those honoring to send an expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers are asked to consider the New Dawn Shelter or Compassus Hospice of West Branch.
