Obituary for Mary Ellen Huber
Mary Ellen Huber, age 88, a resident of Gladwin, passed away peacefully at the Brook of Gladwin on Thursday, February 22, 2018. She was born in Beaverton on April 19, 1929 to Gaylord and Wilma Paxton. After growing up in Coleman, she met Donald Huber on a blind date; they soon married on February 16, 1952. In 1958, Don and Mary built their dream home where they raised their children and spent a great amount of time entertaining friends, hosting bridge groups and was witness to the celebration of several weddings. After raising her seven children, Mary returned to school to earn her teaching degree from CMU. She then taught Junior High English for many years at Beaverton Rural Schools, before retiring with Don to be able to spend time with her expanding number of grandchildren. Mary was an avid reader and she and Don spent their retirement traveling to many of the places she loved to read about; making many friends and lasting memories along the way.
Mary is survived by her husband of 66 years, Donald, as well as seven children: Mathias (Cindy Porrett) Huber, Andrew (Marcy) Huber, Luann (Jon) Udell, Susan (Thomas) VanDeventer, Amy (Mike) Eagan, Jane Wetmore and Jennifer King. She was a loving grandmother of Robin (Kevin), Doug, Joe (Charlyn), Ed (Abigail), John, Cole, Tony, Mike, Rourke, Ryan, Katie, Megan, Jeff and Sarah, as well as two great grandchildren: Moslee and Max. Also surviving her are siblings Richard (Kate) Paxton, and Lucille (Vernell) Sentz. She was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Holihan, and brother, Thomas Paxton.
Memorial Visitation will be held at Sisson Funeral Home on Thursday March 1, 2018 from 2pm until 8pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that a donation be made to a hospice service of their choice. Mary’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to The Brook of Gladwin and Compassus Hospice for their outstanding care provided in Mary’s final days.
