Mrs. Belert 91 passed away on June 13, 2014 at Gladwin Pines with her loving family by her side. Maxine Izora Carey was born on October 23, 1922 to the late Manson Elias and Delilah Pearl (Mills) Carey in Hope, Michigan. Maxine attended the Hope High School until the 10th grade where she was active in 4-H for four years. She graduated from Flint Central High School on June 5, 1941. She worked for AC Sparkplug during the war years then Austin’s in Midland as a stenographer and typist. She married John C. Belert of Clare County on October 18, 1947 in hope Baptist Church with Rev. Duane Lindsey officiating. They settled in Grout Township, Gladwin County where they have lived since 1948. To this union was born three children. She was a homemaker and shared her cooking and baking talents with many friends and neighbors over the years. Her specialty was making cookies and especially chocolate chip for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, also belonging to the ladies Aid Society. She was a member of the VFW Post 1073 Ladies Auxiliary.
Maxine is survived by her loving husband, John of almost 67 years, her daughters, Linda K. Bailey of Harrison; H. Eileen (Charles) Root of Troy, and son Kevin J. (Marci) Belert of Holland, Michigan. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren Brenda K. (JJ) Poet of Clare, Thomas M. Bailey and friend Lori Hopkins of Harrison; Karla (Jim) Holbrook of Hartland; Sarah Burton of Eastpoint; Karl and Joe Belert of Holland; six great grandchildren Devon & Nick Poet, Dane& Kaitlyn Bailey, Steve Burton and Alex Holbrook. She was expecting a new great grandchild in January. She is also, survived by a brother Rex Carey of Arcadia, CA and a sister Helen Carey of Gladwin and a special niece and husband Cheri and Brad Snow of Gladwin along with other nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a son in law James A. Bailey, a brother Jay Carey and a step father John Walter Mason. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday June 17, 2014 at 2 pm from the Our Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor James Krach presiding with burial in Grout Twp. Cemetery. Friends may call at the Sisson Funeral Home on Monday from 3pm to 8 pm. On Tuesday Maxine will lie in state at the church from 1 pm to time of services. Those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Our Savior Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.
