Obituary for Mildred Jane Wolfe
Mildred Jane Wolfe, “Aunt Mil”, age 95, of Gladwin, Michigan passed away at the MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland, Michigan on Wednesday, February 28, 2018. She was born on February 18, 1923 to Adolph and Augustina (Birkholz) Wolfe at their family home in Sherman Township. She attended Sherman #2 School and later graduated from Gladwin High School in 1940. Mildred moved to Detroit where she was employed with Chrysler Corp., Briggs Manufacturing, and American Machine Products. She retired in 1987 after 25 years with the State of Michigan, Department of Natural Resources (DNR) where she held positions of secretary, accountant, radio dispatcher, and administrative manager. Mildred was an active participant in local functions with area DNR retirees.
Mildred returned to Gladwin, after living downstate for many years, where she was born and raised. She had accepted the LORD as her personal savior at the age of nine and was happiest being active and serving the LORD. She was a charter member of the Gladwin Cornerstone Baptist Church where she was currently attending. Mildred was a faithful servant in the LORD’S work and served in many areas of the church over the years including choir, Sunday school teacher, youth leader, children’s ministries, pianist, women’s missionary fellowship, kitchen/fellowship leader, multiple church committees, and was still playing the organ up until last year. Apart from church affiliations, she had also served as representative to different church conferences, conventions, women’s retreats, was on her high school reunion committee for many years, and played the organ for chapel services at the Gladwin Pines for 20 years. Mildred will be missed and most remembered for her dedication and faithfulness to her church and church family. She was an encourager and a great prayer warrior for all.
Her hobbies included crafts, knitting, crocheting, sewing, jigsaw puzzles, bowling (which she did until age 92). She never forgot family birthdays and designed and printed every card that she faithfully sent. She even designed and contracted the building of two houses during her lifetime.
She is survived by two sisters, Viola (Larry) Giegler, Joan (Allan) Rau of Gladwin, 10 nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews. Mildred also had a countless number of “adopted” family as she was known as “Aunt Mil” to everyone she became acquainted with.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Augustina, and siblings Loraine Wolfe, Dolores Ford, Margaret Wolfe, Norman Wolfe, Stanley Wolfe, and Gordon Wolfe.
Honoring Mildred’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial/celebration of life service is planned for Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Cornerstone Baptist Church with Pastor Scott Bradstreet officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the service at 11 a.m. For those wishing to express their sympathy to the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church of Gladwin
