Obituary for Nellie L. Huber
Nellie L. Huber, 94, took her first breath of heavenly air on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010 surrounded by her children at the Brook Assisted Facility where she resided.  She was born March 11, 1916 in Clio, the daughter of Ernest and Lois (Gere) Hillier.  Nellie graduated from Mt. Morris High School in 1933 then pursued her dream of becoming a teacher by attending County Normal in Gladwin and receiving her teaching certificate.  She started her career teaching in the country one room schools of Otsego, Genesee, and Gladwin counties, and then taught in Beaverton, Twin Lakes, Florida, and Gladwin.  She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science Degree from Central Michigan University in 1959 while teaching fulltime, being a farmer’s wife and raising four children.  Nellie was a very dedicated teacher who truly believed that no child should or would be left behind and continually recognized and developed the potential in each of her students.  She retired in 1978 after teaching 37 years but continued to volunteer reading with students in the classrooms.  Nellie was a compassionate woman of strong character and unshakable faith who continually put the needs of others before her own.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gladwin for many years serving wherever needed.  Her passion for teaching Sunday School extending for over 50 years was eclipsed only by her love of sharing Jesus with everyone she met.  Nellie married Duane Huber on June 18, 1938 in Clio, Michigan.  He arrived in Heaven before her in 2005 after being blissfully married for 67 years.  She was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and a “special son”, Wolfgang Schott of Germany.  Remaining family members include her four children, Robert (Joanne) Huber, Michael Huber, Janis (Dennis) Shea all of Gladwin, and Kathy (Michael) Kinne of  Athens, Tennessee;  nine grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, one brother, Donald (Emogene) Hillier of Gladwin and  one sister, Kathleen (William) Webb of Houghton Lake as well as many nieces and nephews.  Visitation will be held on Friday, August 6, 2010 from 2 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the Sisson Funeral Home in Gladwin.  A celebration of Nellie”s life will take place at 11 A.M. on Saturday, August 7.2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Gladwin, MI, with Pastor Mathias Shea and Rev. Lynn Chappell officiating. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery Gladwin.  Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Nellie to the First United Methodist Church, Newhart Church of the Nazarene or Hospice of Mid-Michigan.
