Mr. Thombs 78 passed away Thursday October 2, 2014 at his home following a lingering illness. He was born in Escanaba, Michigan on August 8, 1936 to the late Edward & Mary (Jacobsen) Thombs. He married the former Evon “June” Stock on May 1, 1965 in Grosse Point, Michigan. He was retired from Chrysler Corporation after 30 years of service retiring to Gladwin in 1998. He served his country in the U. S. Air Force. Dick attended the U of M and a member of PHI KAPPA TAU- Fraternity. He was active in the Birmingham Ski Club where he served in several offices and traveled to Switzerland, Canada and many ski areas in the United States. He worked with Habitat for Humanity and was an active member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Bible study leader with Precepts Ministry International for 10 years and the Mission Committee. He traveled with the youth group to Philadelphia, PA in 2000 and several mission trips to Mexico. He enjoyed model trains, painting with oils, collecting civil war, WWI and WWII artifacts. He had a wonderful time traveling to Norway, Israel, Mediterranean, Europe and the Caribbean Islands.

He is survived by his wife June their children Noel (Feriza) Thombs of Spring, TX, Mark (Lisa) Thombs of Sterling Heights and David (Cori) Thombs of Commerce Twp., MI; 6 grandchildren Sean, Adam, Patrick, Jacob, Rebecca and Samuel; a sister Phyllis Rowland of Tiverton, RI; niece Pam Rowland of N. Kingstown, RI; nephews Carl (Kim) Rowland and Jay Rowland of SanDiego, CA.

Funeral services will be held Saturday October 11, 2014 at 11 am from Emmanuel Baptist Church 3089 W. Pratt Lake Rd., Gladwin, Michigan with Pastor Joe Dorias presiding. Interment will be in South Ford Cemetery, Escanaba Michigan on Wednesday October 8, 2014 at 1 pm. For those considering and expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Emmanuel Baptist Church or charity of your choice.



Saturday October 11, 2014 at 11 am from Emmanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Joe Dorias presiding. Interment will be in South Ford Cemetery, Escanaba Michigan on Wednesday October 8, 2014 at 1 pm.
