Roger was born in Bay City, Michigan to Harlow Courtright and Mabel Beaujean and then adopted by Joseph Johnson and Calista De Mitchell on June 6, 1932, where they lived in Lincoln Park, Michigan. Roger served in the Naval Armed Forces in Korea as a seaman in 1952 aboard the USS Repose as a ship’s electrician. He was a truck driver for a brief time in his life. Then, he went to school to become a pipefitter at Local 636. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Eagles Club. He married Cordia Patricia Morcoe (deceased October 18, 1985) in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin on June 26, 1954, where they lived for a short time and then moved to Taylor, Michigan where they raised 7 children together. Upon his retirement he loved being in the country where he resided in Beaverton, Michigan. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and building and remodeling homes.
He is survived by 7 children: Deborah (Lawrence) Smouthers, Kevin (Karla) Johnson, Denise (Gary) Vrsek, Kirk (Cathy, deceased 12-23-2011) Johnson, Danielle (Ben) Lauria, Kyle (Cynthia) Johnson, Kirby (Stacy) Johnson, 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, and one sister Eunice Pinta that resides in Florida. “WE LOVE YOU POPS”.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday August 14, 2015 at Sisson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM until the time of service. Pastor Tony Reynolds will be officiating with burial at Highland Cemetery.
Following the interment, their will be a luncheon at the Liberty Truck Driving School located at 1680 M-61, just east of Gladwin.
