Vera E. Koontz, age 94, passed away peacefully with family by her side on June 8, 2015. The daughter of Ernest and Amelia Donn, she lived in Gladwin County her entire life. Vera married Floyd Koontz in 1937 and they shared over 75 devoted years together. Floyd predeceased her in 2012. Vera enjoyed her beautiful flower gardens. She also pleased family and friends on special occasions with her unique and artistic cake decorating. Vera loved music and her favorite DVD was Rock & Roll by Daniel O’Donnell. She also liked the singing of Barbara Mandrell and was delighted to meet her in person. Vera and her husband spent many winters in Florida but also traveled to many other states, including Hawaii which she especially enjoyed. She cherished the opportunities to share time with family. In addition to being a great homemaker, she also shared duties with her husband in managing their Grade A milk dairy farm. Vera was a very dear person and will be greatly missed. Vera is survived by her daughter, Joyce Link of Saginaw; son-in-law Kenneth Sterling of Ionia; granddaughters, Michelle (Kunio) Ouellette of Essexville and Victoria (Thomas) Dougherty of Orlando, FL; great-grandchildren, Sterling Ouellette and Lauren Ouellette of Essexville; sister, Dorothy Foster of Gladwin; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Ethel Donn of Lansing, Lucille and Robert Whisler of Gladwin; and many nieces and nephews. Vera was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Barbara Sterling; son-in-law, Carl Link; and six brothers, Ervin, Rowland, Walter, Bernard, John and Chester Donn.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Sisson Funeral Home in Gladwin. Visitation will be on Friday, June 26, 2015 from 3 to 7 pm and on Saturday, June 27, 2015 from 10 a.m. to time of service. Vera will be laid to rest in Ridge Cemetery in Gladwin.
