Vern Arthur Gilman
Beaverton, Michigan
Vern age 76, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away Friday, January 4, 2019 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born on February 16, 1942 in Beaverton, Michigan to the late Arthur & Edna (Case) Gilman. He was retired from the Gladwin County Road Commission as a truck driver. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Vern enjoyed watching westerns on television, doing yard work, and working on cars. He married Alice Currier on July 14, 1969 at Skeel’s Baptist Church in Gladwin. He is survived by his wife Alice, his children Michael Gilman, Sally Gardner, Tammy Surface and Joann Gilman, 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, brothers Jim (Helen) Gilman, Bill Gilman and Johnny Gilman and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents a mother in law Beatrice Sabin and a brother Bob Gilman.
Vern Gilman what can you say about a true angel on earth. He was an amazing husband; father, brother, uncle, grandpa and friend a truly, humble man. He was always happy with what he had and willing to give to all whatever they needed. Even if it meant he had to go without. To know him was to see what love truly was his love and devotion to his one and only love Alice the love he had and showed for his children and grandchildren whether they be blood or not always there for everyone rather it be a listening ear or a smart comment or a joke. Vern’s door and heart were always open.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 2 pm from the Sisson Funeral Home with Pastor Kim Lewis presiding with burial in Midland Memorial Garden Cemetery with Military Funeral Honors. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 1 pm until time of service. In lieu of flowers those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Gladwin VFW Post.
