Obituary for Walter D. Hart
Walter Dwaine Hart, 73, of Gladwin was called to his Heavenly Home on Saturday, December 30, 2017. Surrounded by his dear family, he passed away peacefully after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer.

Walter was born September 7, 1944 in Paris, Tennessee, the son of the late Walter E. and Clara Mai (Willard) Hart. On March 30, 1963, he was united in marriage to Linda Lee Liimatta and that union blessed them with a loving daughter and son, eight precious grandchildren and four very special great-grandchildren.

Walt was a graduate of Pontiac Northern High School and Mott Community College. He retired from Pontiac Motor Division as a Journeyman Machine Repairman and Health & Safety Instructor. Walt served as a Lieutenant on the Waterford Township Volunteer Fire Department; Fire Chief on the Atlas Township Fire Department; an EMT-S on the Goodrich Volunteer Ambulance Service; an Advanced First Aid Instructor and a Michigan Heart Association CPR Instructor before moving to the Gladwin area in 1992.

Walt served twenty years on the Sherman Township Board of Trustees in Gladwin as Supervisor, Treasurer, and Deputy Treasurer. He was the Turner Township Assessor in Arenac County for eight years.

Walt was faithful in his love for God and strived to serve Him. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and enjoyed teaching an Adult Sunday School Class and had served as a Deacon and Trustee. He was Chairman of the Gladwin Goodfellows Christmas Food Box Program for the past 11 years. God provided him with many talents and he used them in a lifetime of serving others.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 54 years, Linda; daughter Elizabeth (Timothy) Hill of Kingston, MI; son Walter (Kristi) Hart of Moran, MI; grandchildren: Melissa (Troy) Biddix, Brittni (Ty) Stevenson, Caleb (Jennifer) Hill, Peter (Allie) Hill, Noah Hart, Lily Hart, Anna Hart, Emmalee Hart; great-grandchildren: Jack, Claire, and Henry Biddix; Elizabeth Stevenson; nieces Collette Hemminger and Patrice Johnson. Walt is also survived by several nieces, nephews and a brother, James (Jean) Hart. In addition to his parents, Walter is predeceased by his sister Thalia Joyce Smith.

A celebration of Walter’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Emmanuel BaptistChurch in Gladwin, MI with Pastor Joseph Dorais and Chaplain Fred Liimatta VFW Pontiac Post 1370 officiating. Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Walter will be laid to rest on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Ottawa Park Cemetery in Waterford, MI.
