Walter John Kemp Jr. went to join the Lord on May 27, 2012. A lifelong Gladwin County resident he was born September 3, 1925 at the family farm near Beaverton to the late Walter John Kemp Sr and Viola Collins. After graduating from Beaverton High School in 1948 he worked the farm with his father and on March 28, 1948 he married Norene J. Hutchinson of Clare, MI.
He is survived by his wife Norene, a son James Kemp, two daughters, Cherrie (Kenneth) Benchley; Julie (Ernest Kent) Elliott. There are nine grandchildren, Trevor (Margarita) Benchley, Jeremy, (Darci) Benchley, Matthew (Christina) Benchley, Brandon (Rachael) Benchley, John Elliott, Timothy Elliott, A. J. Elliott, Jennifer Elliott and Aaron Kemp.
There six great grandchildren, Xander, Isaac, Landon and Maya Benchley and Jakob and Kristine Elliott.
One sister Jeanette(Walter)Harles, two nephews John(Ellen) Harles ; Robert (Rebecca)Harles ; a great nephew Tristan Harles ; a great niece Violette Harles
He was preceded in death by one son Michael Kemp and three grandchildren, Michael, Laura, and Ryan Kemp.
Walter worked at Dow Chemical for sixteen years. Walt and Norene owned the Spinning Wheel restaurant in Beaverton. He retired from Kigar Real Estate and DeShano Construction after more than 40 years of service. As resident of Gladwin he was elected to the City Council and served several terms as a councilman.
Arrangements will be handled by Sisson Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 30, 11 am – 8 pm. The memorial service will be May 31st at 1:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church of Gladwin. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Mid Michigan Hospice (yellow team Gladwin).
