Mr. Johns 80 passed away Thursday June 5, 2014 at the Gladwin Pines following a brief illness. He was many things to many people including son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, wonderful father, adored grandfather, and beloved husband to Betty Johns for 57 years.
He was born in Detroit to the late William R. & Dorothy J. (Harbison) Johns. Roger was a graduate of Cass Technical High School Class of 1952. He married the former Betty Aiken on October 27, 1956 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Highland Park, Michigan. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1958 stationed in the Panama Canal Zone. He was retired from DTE Company after 44 years as a civil engineer. He was a member of First United Methodist Church-Gladwin and Sugar Springs Golf League. Roger and Betty wintered in Ocala Florida from 2000 to 2010. He enjoyed traveling to Minnesota, Kansas and Arizona to visit children and grandchildren, also, golfing, gardening, reading and watching any and all sports on TV. In 2007 they traveled and celebrated their 5o the wedding anniversary in England & Scotland and spending a week in Cornwall (Birthplace of his grandparents and mother-in-law) with his whole family.

Surviving besides his wife Betty are their children Karen Johns of Phoenix, AZ, Nancy (Dave) Cochran of New Boston, MI, Lori Johns (Barry Fitzgerald) of Lawrence, KS and David Johns of Ferndale; grandchildren Max Fitzgerald of Lawrence, KS and Amanda Ripstra of Phoenix, AZ: a brother William Johns of Auburn Hills; Brother in law Edward Tollafield of Troy and many nieces & nephews and grand nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by sister Carole L. Tollarfield.

Funeral services will be held Saturday June 14, 2014 at 10:30 am at the First United Methodist Church-Gladwin with Pastor David Amstutz presiding with inurnment at Roselawn Park Cemetery, Berkley, and MI. Family will greet friends at the service on Saturday. Those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider instead of flowers donations to Sugar Springs Memorial Fund or the First United Methodist Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Sisson Funeral Home.
