Obituary for Kathleen M. Darlington
Kathleen Marie Darlington, age 85, of Gladwin, MI, passed away Sunday, December 19, 2010 at the Gladwin Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Gladwin, MI. Kathleen was born December 8, 1925 in Highland Park, MI, the daughter of Joseph and Florence Browne.
Kathleen was married to James “Bill” Darlington on February 8, 1947. They remained in the Detroit area until their move to their favorite “up north getaway” in Fremont, MI in 1980. Kathleen was a homemaker, loving mother and mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. She was an avid exerciser who enjoyed spending time outside walking, and feeding and watching the birds; while always being accompanied by one of the family’s precious dogs. She enjoyed listening to music, playing the piano for the many family sing-a-longs and watching old classic movies. During her 12 years of suffering from Alzheimer’s, she kept her love for music alive by singing and humming throughout the day - something that will be missed by her family and the caring staff at the nursing home.
Surviving Kathleen are her sons, James Darlington and wife Dolores of Evart, MI, and John Darlington and wife Carol of Gladwin, MI; one son-in-law, Larry Krot of Howell, MI; two brothers, Joseph “Ron” Browne of Brighton, MI and Bernard and wife Beverly of Post Falls, Idaho; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, daughter Dawn Marie Krot, granddaughter Heather Darlington, great grandson Madison, sister Bernice Beardsley and sister-in-law “Dutch” Browne.
According to Kathleen’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service will take place at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley, MI. Arrangements were entrusted to Sisson Funeral Home, Gladwin, MI.
Memorial contributions may be considered to the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Michigan Chapter, 20300 Civic Center Dr., Ste. 100, Southfield, MI 48076.
